Formula D is one of the events I’ve always looked forward to as a photographer every year. I’ve been photographing Formula D since its inaugural event in the Pacific Northwest back in 2006, and it definitely seems to get better and better each year. There was absolutely zero rain this year and while it was definitely hot, it wasn’t quite as hot as the mid-90s/low-100s track side for 2006 and 2007. Altogether, the good weather made for some good photography. It’s always a tiring event for photographers nonetheless, since we start shooting at about noon, get a 2-hour break between 4 pm and 6 pm, and then we shoot for another 2-3 hours after that. Thus, it’s a lot of standing around and it’s easy to get dehydrated since you can’t cross the track while cars are running. In any case, I shot the event for both NWMotiv.com and DrivingSports.com this year, and you can find these photos on their respective websites as well.
