2013 Year in Review

JULY
As soon as the wedding was over, I pretty much hopped onto a plane and flew down to San Diego to celebrate my brother’s birthday with the family on a cruise to Catalina Island and Ensenada, Mexico. Despite having a nice relaxing short vacation, I was still busy working on photos the whole time. During my time in San Diego, I also received a surprise phone call that would land me my first truly commercial photoshoot in August, along some event coverage at the LeMay Car Museum in Tacoma, WA. On top of all this, I was back on track at Formula DRIFT Seattle shooting for NWMotiv and I had a photoshoot of the painting of Kito’s Tercel Rally-X Car the day after I got back in town. I was also surprised by my friend Richard Thompson, who asked me to assist him with his photoshoot of Nate Robinson’s cars for DUB Magazine! July ended up being crazy busy for me.
AUGUST
Things didn’t slow down much from July, with a couple private automotive photoshoots and the big commercial shoot for Toyota USA. I also managed to fit in a few photos for Matt, photos of Chris Jeanneret’s drift car for NWMotiv, and even starting playing around with my dad’s old Canon A1 film camera from the mid 1980s. I even switched to a new steady job at Fluke Corporation, which put an end to a few months 100% freelance photography work. Overall, August was an extremely productive month for me.
SEPTEMBER
I must’ve done something right, since I was asked to shoot for Toyota USA once again, this time for their 2014 Corolla press event in Seattle. This, along with NWMotiv’s inMotion, were the major highlights of September, but I was still able to squeeze in some photos of nice late summer sunsets and finish up my roll of Kodak TRI-X 400 film.
OCTOBER
With summer over, things started to wind down. October was pretty uneventful, with a few photos for Edelmar’s website and just playing around with my new Olympus OM-D E-M5.
NOVEMBER AND DECEMBER
The final two months of the year were very slow photography-wise, but after how crazy the year’s been, it was definitely nice to have a big of a break. I took a few photos at my aunt’s birthday brunch at Ivar’s Salmon House, and in December we had the NWMotiv Toy Drive at Achtuning. I definitely put the OM-D to good use at both events, and it’s proved to be a great second body to go along with my D700.
Once again, thank you to everyone that’s been a part of my photography in some way, shape, or form this year. Many thanks especially to Wence Estrada for all of his help and assistance this year. 2013 was a year of great change and success, and I can only assume that 2014 will bring continuing success! Happy Holidays to everyone!
